People Risk Assessment Tool (PRAT)

The People Risk Assessment Tool is the initial step towards systematically identifying people hazards in the workplace. Since such hazards are not always obvious, it takes the guesswork out of the process.

This tool is especially designed for OHS, HR or other Senior Managers who have responsibilities for managing compliance with OHS legislation and those who are responsible for employees’ health and well-being. Thus it is assumed that those completing the hazard identification step are aware of staff issues.

It is envisaged that the Project Co-ordinator will be, for example, the OHS Manager who will then invite other participants to complete the checklist from the HR team, for example HR Consultants, Injury Management Consultants, selected managers, heads of departments and staff from the Organisational Health / Well-Being or OHS Committees.

PRAT assumes that one Project Co-ordinator will be appointed for this initial desktop assessment. When the Project Co-ordinator authorises the PRAT purchase, they will receive an email with the hyperlink to the website and two passwords to activate PRAT (one for the Co-ordinator and the other one for the additional participants, if selected).

This practical tool will provide you with:

  • a universal check-list for psychological risks in your workplace, based on current research
  • a basis for a systematic assessment of your psychological risks
  • a 3-page report that can be used as a basis for action planning to control the risk,s that can be confidently presented to senior management for their consideration of this important corporate responsibility
  • an opportunity to involve and consult a number of people in your organisation in estimating which psycho-social hazards your workplace is exposed to the most
  • a useful basis for increasing awareness of risk management concepts as applied to the psychological realm throughout the organisation
  • a list of other data sources that will be useful in assessing the level of your risk, in dollar terms

PRAT is a three step process:

  1. Hazard identification with up to 25 participants
  2. Assessment of risk
  3. A template for risk control
