MLQ Team
What is an MLQ Team?
- The MLQTeam is an instrument for benchmarking group members’ ratings of internal group behaviours (shared leadership). It provides a yardstick to measure team performance, development opportunities – and their effectiveness down the track.
- The MLQTeam is based on the comprehensively researched Full Range Leadership Model (FRLM, Bass & Avolio), which differentially links a full range of leadership behaviours with outcomes such as satisfaction, extra effort, efficiency and performance beyond expectations. The FRLM has nine leadership factors grouped into Transformational, Transactional and Laissez-faire behaviours.
- The MLQ is a short but comprehensive list of fifty-five items measuring a range of nine leadership influencing styles, from passive or crisis driven leadership through to five powerful transformational leadership behaviours. Transformational teams have been shown to produce better ‘satisfaction’, ‘efficiency’ and ‘productivity’ outcomes.
Features
- Responses from the MLQTeam are gathered from all team members and the results aggregated, providing feedback to the team as a whole about how its members see the group performing leadership functions as a team.
- Responses are collated into an easy to read, extensive report which helps the team to understand their results. The report includes full descriptions of the leadership styles, outcomes, tips for building leadership competencies and suggestions for interpreting the report, including:
- Narrative explanations of the concepts used
- Graphs of team responses
- Levels of disagreement about perceptions of the team's exercise of the full transformational - transactional leadership behaviours
- Leadership behaviours that indicate future development potential, and could be used as the basis for goal-setting
- An MLQ accredited Facilitator and Coach will optimise the benefits of this measurement through the feedback process, including group facilitation geared towards the development of a Team Compact.
