Manual Handling Training

As most jobs involve some form of manual handling, many workers are at risk of injury. Whilst not all manual handling tasks are hazardous, around a quarter of all workplace injuries are caused by manual handling.

Manual handling covers a wide range of activities including lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying. It includes repetitive tasks such as packing, typing, assembling, cleaning, using hand tools and operating machinery and equipment.

With sprains and strains being the most prevalent and preventable type of injuries in the workplace, investing in manual handling training ensures compliance with legislative requirements for risk management and injury prevention.

The training package includes:

  • Understanding why manual handling training is important
  • Common mechanisms of injury
  • Basic anatomy
  • Manual handling principles
  • Manual handling scenarios specific to your organisation and discussion of how the manual handling risk can be minimised
  • Practical application of manual handling principles
  • Prevention

Our consultants develop a training package specific to the organisation’s needs. Our training is run on site and we recommend session sizes of 15 participants to ensure all attendees benefit from discussion, interaction and practical application of manual handling principles in your workplace setting. Our training sessions run for 1 hour. Many of our clients schedule the sessions as part of a lunch time seminar with refresher sessions throughout the year. Training can be further customised for time, content and format. Training on a one to one basis is also available.
