Editorial

Welcome to the first edition of the ResolutionsRTK ezine for 2009.

During the first quarter of this year we have faced various crises together as a community, from the bushfires, global financial meltdown, local economic downturn, drought, floods, and now the possibility of a flu pandemic. As we are all connected so much more we can't help but react to these reported crises in some way, whether they affect us directly or indirectly, emotionally or physically. If your workplace is similar to many others we have come across, you might have noticed some subtle changes. As the pressure of work has intensified there might have been more conflicts and angst or more support and collaboration within teams, depending on your culture. There are new attitudes and cultures forming within our organisations, as the human spirit rises up in determination to be resilient and to overcome the perceived collective threat.

With this in mind, in the following articles we offer a few observations and tips about what the sort of workplaces where people want to work. Managing outplacement respectfully, in a way that minimises risk to individuals and organisations, is one topic addressed. A year ago we were worrying about the skills shortage . A sign of the times - and how quickly things change.
