Activities of Daily Living

On occasions, injured individuals may require assistance with their activities of daily living (ADLs) due to the nature of their injuries. When employers or agents receive a request for home aides, home help or gardening assistance for an injured individual, it is highly recommended a qualified occupational therapist conducts an ADL assessment. This involves assessing a person’s ability to manage at home regarding personal care, housekeeping and gardening etc. and determines the level of assistance needed.

The occupational therapist visits the injured individual at home and consider factors such as the individual’s physical capacity and the family support, before providing a recommendation on the level of assistance and duration of assistance required. This ensures the individual receives assistance tailored to their situation which in turn has a positive impact on cost effectiveness of the claim.
